What Women in Fort Collins Ask About Lifting Weights (Answered by a Personal Trainer)
Instead of another “this is who I am” post — let’s talk about the questions I always get from women who want to start lifting weights but don’t know where to begin…
I’m Atiya, a personal trainer in Fort Collins, Colorado, and I specialize in helping women feel confident and strong — both in and out of the gym. This reintroduction isn’t about me — it’s about YOU. These are the questions I hear every week from women just like you.
I’m nervous to start lifting — where do I begin?
First of all, you’re not alone. So many women feel this way!
The best place to start is with simple movements — think squats, rows, or lunges — and focus on proper form.
Even better? Work with a Fort Collins personal trainer who can guide you through the process and help you feel more confident every time you show up.
How do I gain confidence using weights at the gym?
Confidence grows with repetition.
You don’t have to know everything on day one — that’s what coaching is for.
The more you practice, the more you learn. I love showing my clients how to use dumbbells, barbells, and machines so they feel capable and strong on their own.
What’s your favorite exercise to teach and why?
Windmills!
Yes, they feel awkward at first — and usually get a laugh — but once my clients feel the core control and shoulder strength they build, they love them as much as I do.
How do you help women overcome gym anxiety?
One of the most important parts of my job is helping women feel like they belong in the gym.
I lead by example, remind you that it’s okay to take up space, and create a training environment that’s encouraging, educational, and supportive.
In our Fort Collins personal training sessions, I meet you where you're at — no pressure, no judgment.
